Yellow Delicious plays no-keyboard new-wave rock like it's 1981, with a foot in the '70s -- "What Do You Want From Me?" has plenty of cowbell. Get Some!, the Cleveland quartet's second album, sounds like a best-of disc from a band that had a string of Top 40 hits the last time skinny ties were in. The group can take non-lyrics like "Oh yeah/All right/We're gonna get some" ("Get Some") and "Come on/Come on" ("C'mon C'Mon") and somehow turn them into fully formed songs.
When Yellow Delicious does decide to really write, it's not fancy, but it's still impressive. On "She Said," frontman-lead guitarist Pat Kostalnick sings "She" over doo-wop melodies and slow strumming, gently crooning, "She makes me feel/And she makes me sing/She can do anything." The album credits claim that Elvis Costello didn't write the song, but Costello himself probably couldn't tell the difference.
