7/3: Andy Pratt at Wincester

Posted by Frank Lewis on Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 3:00 PM

You gotta wonder what drives a guy like Andy Pratt. The Boston-bred singer was at the top of his game in the ’70s, when “Avenging Annie” was all over FM radio. After bombing with a pair of tours, Pratt found Jesus and relocated to the Netherlands, where he worked as a minister and recorded religious songs. Pratt eventually returned to the U.S. and resumed his music career, forming a new band and penning an autobiography, Shiver in the Night, in 2006. Who knows if this will lead to anything? Probably not, but he’s worth checking out, even if it’s just for that whiff of nostalgia. Pratt performs at 9 p.m. at the Winchester Tavern (12112 Madison Ave., 216.226.5681). Tickets: $10. — Ernest Barteldes

When you get a chance check out Andy Pratt's Official 2009 Web Site. You can hear his music, watch videos, read his biography and even see his family tree of Rich Relatives. His great grandfather was business partners with John D. Rockefeller (the Richest Man in America). http://andyprattmusic.tripod.com Andy Pratt is Presented by Northern Music http://www.myspace.com/northernmusicagency

Mr Barteldes

I wanted to say one more thing. In your basically kind review you say that my tours 'bombed.' Well, I don't agree. What you might have said was that I didn't 'break out'. I played all over the US, often to large audiences, who were often very appreciative, my two records from that time, Resolution and Shiver in the Night, both sold around 80,000 copies. I recommend a book called "Hit Men", for a more complete understanding of who makes it and who doesn't in big-time music...I wrote a book too, the link is below....blessings forever to all

Mr Pratt,

That was not written in my original piece - the Scene's editor made considerable changes on it (which is his prerogative, I should say).

Best,

Ernest Barteldes
