7/9: Terry Scott Taylor at Musica

Posted by on Tue, Jul 7, 2009 at 5:01 PM

Fronted by Terry Scott Taylor, the band Daniel Amos had a wild arsenal of artistic influences — T.S. Elliot, William Blake, Koko the signing gorilla, retro sci-fi kitsch, psychedelic pop and skinny-tie new wave. Since the mid-1970s, Daniel Amos (a.k.a. DA) has made several clever theological/philosophical concept albums with a sincere quirkiness and artistic maturity that prevented pretentious self-indulgence. Taylor has also enjoyed a respected career creating cartoon/videogame soundtracks, thanks to Doug “Earthworm Jim” TenNapel being a huge DA fan. Awareness of Taylor’s cool creative vision has rarely escaped his small but fanatical cult following, and he almost never tours. For the first time since DA played John Carroll in 1986, Taylor performs for Northeast Ohio fans at 7 p.m. at Musica (51 E. Market St., Akron, 330.374.1114). Tickets: $10 advance, $12 day of show. — Michael David Toth
