10/23: Eddie Griffin at the Improv

Posted By on Tue, Oct 20, 2009 at 2:51 PM

After starring in 2002’s Undercover Brother, charismatic comedian Eddie Griffin scored praise for what seemed to be a breakthrough role. But the 41-year-old Griffin has yet to make the jump to the next echelon, still stuck on the B-movie circuit (Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, Scary Movie 3). Griffin says he should be really famous by now and still dreams of scoring that big project. “[Hollywood] is holding me back, man,” he laughs. “I have to find the right Eddie Griffin vehicle. It’s always been Eddie Griffin with Orlando Jones: ‘Let’s get Eddie Griffin and polish this turd.’ ‘We’ll bring in Eddie Griffin to save Deuce Bigalow.’ ‘Bring in Eddie Griffin to make this film work.’” After surviving a heart attack earlier in the decade, Griffin says he now lives life to the fullest. Still, he recently crashed his Ferrari. “I don’t have a death wish,” he says. “I was in a state of shock when it happened. The airbag hit me in the head. That wasn’t fun. [But] I don’t drive anymore. I gave it up. I don’t need to drive. I’m flying through life.” Griffin performs at 8 and 10:15 tonight and at 7 and 9:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Improv (2000 Sycamore St., 216.696.4677). Tickets: $30. — Ed Condran
