It can be embarrassing to go on extended "coffee" breaks when citizens are watching the high jinks.

Re: “Contest Announcement: Design a New Name/Logo For the Cleveland Baseball Team

Most people on this thread are operating on the false assumption that no new idea could possibly be better than an old one.

Why use machines when you can churn butter by hand? Why get an iPhone when the Motorola Razr is so fucking sweet? Why rename the team the Cleveland Indians when the Naps or Spiders are just fine?

Being unwilling to even consider a new idea can actually expose that the old idea has weaknesses. If people are irrationally afraid of a new idea coming along, it's usually because they know deep inside that the current idea has flaws that could be exposed. Humans don't like having the worldview challenged, but when those with ideas bring them forth anyway, those same humans lives are often improved (or not negatively affected).

Don't believe me? Remember that stating the earth revolved around the sun used to cost you your head. Remember that before Henry Ford people would have tried making a faster horse.

And remember that people all across America think Heinz Yellow Mustard tastes great on a hot dog until they come to Cleveland and try Bertman's for the first time.

Samaria is pissed that she had to take annuity payments instead of getting a cash payout for being a criminal and a delinquent mom.

Re: “This Candle Smells Like Ohio, Whatever That Is

Smells more like the odor of horseshit to me.

Do these charlatans also sell a Chicago-scented candle? One that costs a hundred bucks and smells like Cub victory?

The whole idea has the stink of rip-off on it...but hey, there's a sucker born every minute. Ask the man who knows...our newest POTUS.

Re: “Forty Years Later, a Former Cleveland Paperboy Revisits the Sexual Assault that Changed His Life

When one has read newspapers and magazines for more than six decades, a handful of stories stay with you for the rest of your life. This is one of them.

Probably the most memorable piece I've read in 24 years of reading SCENE.

Visualizing the written images was like watching a horror movie that is seared into your brain forever. But this was worse than any horror movie ever made...it was reality.

Kudos to SCENE for having the courage to run it, and even more thanks to the writer for having the courage to write it.

Never knew the real story about the effects of child molestation. I do now.

Nice protest sign. Did they drink up the brewskis before they made it...or after?

Re: “Unique Thrift Store in Ohio City Will Close on Saturday

I am devestated at the closing of Unique. I shopped there after the North Randall location closed and found so many collectibles, toys, knick knacks, clothes, and bedding. It was my go to store for bedspreads and sheets. Found many collectible items that I did not find elsewhere. The prices were really good. I mourn the loss of this store and feel for the employees who are losing their jobs. No more are the mom and pop stores allowed to be open. Almost every thrift store is gone along with D&K, Uncle Bills, Silverman's, and those small free standing ice cream stops. We are losing so many places that will now only live in memory.

Re: “Another Anti-Trump Protest Set for Dec. 3

" Bring your pithy signs. This time, the protest begins at 2 p.m. Expect to hear speakers and probably do a fair bit of marching."

Nothing like a little bit of snarcasm to let the powers-that-be know which side you've switched to. Three weeks ago, you were promoting Hillary and Her Thug Circus, when that dog-and-pony-show came to town.

You guys are blowing with the wind, which is coming from the right at the moment.
Or maybe you just blow.

Re: “Another Anti-Trump Protest Set for Dec. 3

Thought this was a new story. No, it's a political promo at the top of your website. No sources referenced. Just a billboard ad asking "pithy" people to show up. Nice work Eric Sandy. And please fix your website so every time someone clicks like, it doesn't record as a dislike. I love propaganda media. You Scene folks are awesome!

Re: “Cleveland School District’s Current Crisis: High Levels of Lead Found in Water

So sad. Another folly from the Frank Jackson administration. The Cleve Health Department has and is continuing to fail the city residents by not having a satisfactory lead program. Ms. Minor and Ms. Gordon flounder around town telling people that they have solved the lead problem. Ms. Minor's attitude is that lead is lead. She quickly established and qualified herself for the chief idiotic award. Now we have the CMSD thriving in a non-proactive environment of waiting to perform lead testing within school buildings. No wonder, no fault of their own that some of the kids are having issues learning along with behavioral issues. Lets' not forget Frank Jackson, aka mush mouth answer to everything, "it is what it is." So my fellow Clevelanders, if this is indicative of the mayor's 12 years of success, please do not show us your failures.

Yes, how many times must a Browns fan look up

Yes, how many head coaches must the team hire
Before we have some championship firepower?
Yes, how many regime changes will it take till we know
That Jimmy Haslam has lied?

Re: “Another Anti-Trump Protest Set for Dec. 3

Seriously, this is pathetic. You cant get voters to buy your BS, then you cant get people to show up to your "rallies" against democracy. Now you are actively promoting them to try and boost attendance.

Get it through your head. You lost. Your ideology lost. It lost BIG, and it lost for a reason. You remind me of Frank the Tank running around streaking and thinking that everyone is behind you. Here's a tip....look behind you . There's no one there.

Re: “CWRU Beefs Up Campus Security After Nine Robberies in Two Weeks: UPDATE

Bikes are stolen from CWRU regularly (http://observer.case.edu/bike-theft/), and CWRU has refused to lift a finger for years. Last time I checked, bikes are also personal property. I'm surprised CWRU even bothered to issue a statement on this one.
