Re: “The Population Boom in Downtown Cleveland is Very Real and Very Good. But How Long Can It Continue?

Where is this 97% rate figure coming from? - A month or 2 ago, the words "ghost town" were used to describe the new apartments on the east bank near Punchbowl, and the now abandoned country music bar.

It's going to be really interesting to see how all of this pans out after the election year is over and the RNC money moves back out of town... Here's hoping that the restaurants / retail have some staying power!

Re: “All His Children

Bill Denihan was probably the single most responsible adult in the Kovacic case. He was ill-equipped and ill-trained to do the governmentally-appointed job he was in, and quite frankly I was more angry with him over this incident than I was anyone else! You just DON'T place the highest level children into a home with senior citizens who basically are making their living off of their placements. Billie and her husband gave the go-ahead for Marcus to walk to the mall at 9:00 pm. - UNSUPERVISED. What most people don't know is that there are tiers of reimbursement for these foster kids and they only took in the highest tier possible so as to maximize the benefits that they were given to care for each child. And to put these street-savvy kids in the middle of a cornfield community was akin to putting the lion in a lamb's den. Say what you will, but Bill Denihan got everything that he deserved at that community forum. I have many years of experience with working with MR/DD adults. We NEVER would dream of making a placement for ANY of them unless we felt fairly certain that their communities would embrace them... This whole thing is probably the most God-awful thing to have happened - and it all could have been prevented with proper placement.

Re: “The GOP is Coming to Town in July. Protestors Are Too. Is Cleveland Ready for What Comes With the RNC?

Were you there, Charlie? "The other choice" (Humphrey) lost by a mere 512,000 votes...out of 73.2 million cast in '68...or 43.4% to 42.7%...a statistical whisker.

Nixon won in a squeaker...but he won where it mattered...California, Illinois, and...Ohio...unlike 1960, in which Nixon also won Ohio but lost the election (to JFK)...one of a handful of times that has happened.

Anti-Trump rioting in Cleveland will not hand the election to the Donald...millions of Americans hate his guts. What WILL hand him the Presidency will be a face-off against Bernie Sanders instead of The Shrill...assuming he can somehow manage to pull off the upset of the new century. .

Millions of Americans are not going to chose a "leftist pinko"...and his radical ideas...over a fascist lunatic.

Lenin will not beat Hitler.

The protestors in '68 outside the Convenetion where a great help to Richard Nixon, (this is a fact), because the majority of voters saw the chaos and disruption as the other choice to Nixon. Guaranteed the lunatics and lefties will be there in force at the Republican convention in Cleveland - with the same result - a Republican President. Bring it on! Don't forget all your favorite signs for Socialism, Cop Killing, Islamophobia, Free Palestine, Transgender and Vegetable rights, etc.

chuckles--really, Cleveland "not that bad'(?) when innocent whites get mugged by Black thugs after St Pat's Day, and how many drive-bys on almost daily basis??

As for Hermes, I almost choked on my coffee--coming from the Bay Area, what about the looting and rioting in Richmond and Oakland by occupy anarchists? that was NOT police over-exaggeration. Or that Ferguson was opportunity for rioting and looting neighborhood, mostly black-owned, stores, so it was not about "protest" but theft without consequences.

Cops will let the city burn. They have had enough. They cant do their jobs. They are short handed. They get no support and no I'm not a cop and certainly not related to any. Plain facts. They will make the mayor pay for his political and racist motives.

Another outside agitator heard from. Where you from, pal? Strongsville or somewhere nearby, right? Shmuck.

Cleveland is not all that bad...from May through October, anyway. You can do a lot worse. Best damn band in the land...and our water tastes great and won't kill you, or make you a brain-damaged zombie.

I am sure Cleveland is ready. I mean all the wacko birds will be out. Maybe they can throw beer bottles like they did at a football game. or pee in some guy car window. I mean this is the kind of thing they do in Cleveland and your cops are not going to be allowed to do anything. Personally, I think the Republicans were nuts for taking the convention to a garbage city like Cleveland. The best thing to do to Cleveland is move the shores of lake Erie to Hudson.

Re: “The GOP is Coming to Town in July. Protestors Are Too. Is Cleveland Ready for What Comes With the RNC?

"The police always need a boogieman to get the extra power they desire at these events, and they always tell the locals it will be these evil outside agitators,"

Chicago authorities (Daley the Elder and his thugs) freaked out over predictions of a hundred thousand radicalized "hippies" coming to my hometown in '68. What they got was roughly one-eighth that many, but it was more than enough for a shit-storm.

Of course there were those "Yippie leaders" from Noo Yawk and the Left Coast, but studies and surveys later proved that the vast majority of the protesters were natives to Chicago and its suburbs. Perhaps Clevelanders (including this one) will turn out in enough numbers and make enough noise to preclude vast numbers of "outsiders" who don't want to materialize here, or who get scared off if Kasich calls out the Guard (the word in '68 was "If you're going to Chicago, be sure to wear some armor in your hair"--so thousands stayed home.)

Forget Black Lives Matter or local issues like the Tamir Rice and Brelo cases, among others. Forget the issues of divisiveness in the Republican Party itself, and forget the noisy millennials looking to make their mark over climate change and environmental justice issues. Forget the economic pressures they face with a poor employment economy. Boomers had it just as bad in the Seventies...maybe worse. Wah wah wah.

No...the MAIN reason I will be downtown...and I hope the reason tens of thousands show up, no matter where they are from, are those " gun-toting and immigrant-hating Trump supporters who will likely be out in full force"...I hate Trump's guts and want to stop him and his mouth-breathing, USA-chanting, flag-waving, Bible-thumping, Muslim-hating minions by any means necessary. Let them come. Bring it on.

I (and I hope many, many other progressive Dems) want to show him just how unwelcome he is in this city and how people feel about him and everything he represents...the fascist underside of America and echoes of another madman from eighty years ago. I don't shrink from them...on the contrary...I'm looking forward to it, even though I can't run as fast as I could in '68.

I was 21 in Daley's 1968 Chicago and it still amazes me that no one was killed. Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it. Trump is bringing his circus to this town, and thanks to him, unfortunately, the GOP will be wading through plenty of elephant shit.

It isn't gonna be all about foodie hipster restaurants and the RRHOF and East Fourth.

Thanks, Donald...you ruined our pleasant little summertime garden party, you fucking asshole.

Protests have unfortunately become an ongoing Reality TV show for FOX News, MSNBC and CNN.....advertisers are happy with the unexpected ratings boost and cops can channel any pent-up anger by busting open a few heads. The Exploding Plastic Inevitable for a bored population breathlessly waiting for the next season of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians".

Re: “Carl Monday Probes an Intriguing New Subject: Himself

A wonderful couple, I had the opportunity to meet them a few years back. An investigative journalism program is really what is needed for the the future of sound reporting in our ever changing world of today. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you , Carl, a job well done!

Re: “Carl Monday Probes an Intriguing New Subject: Himself

The idea of an Investigative Journalism program at Kent State should be pursued. There is more need than ever for such training as print reporting moves to the internet. That training combined with investigative experience will ultimately improve the reliability of web sources, as more reporters follow Carl Monday's example to earn their own "brands" that readers can rely upon.

The character created by Carl Stylinski is a hideous attempt at a TV version of Gary Dee.

Re: “How Cleveland's Trying to Get Out of Paying $18.7 Million in Judgments Against Two Cleveland Police Officers

Hang out with a bunch of gang bangers, carry a gun, and attempt to grab said gun when being commanded to raise your hands; all things that lead to one (regardless of race), being removed from the face of the earth as we know it.
Thank you Cleveland PD for selflessly defending the few remaining tax payers in the city. We appreciate you.

Thank you Cleveland PD for taking care of the few remaining tax payers in our city. We appreciate you.
