Akron's only mechanical bull spins as fast as the Whiskey Ranch's hyperactive light show. Decorative saddles and fenceposts complete the C&W motif, in addition to rock and country loud enough to hear on the other side of the river -- in Tennessee.
The food is excellent, and the locker facilities are first-rate. The south course is challenging, with sloping fairways, elevated approach shots, and a long, uphill par-3. The tee boxes are manicured like greens.
Established in 1953 as a rural roadhouse, Whitey's present-day specialties are booze, burgers, and superlative chili. The cozy atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, although on weekends, long waits for a table are to be expected.
