At the newly opened Table 45
in the InterContinental Hotel, the concept is classy, the vibe is exciting, and the space is packed with sex appeal. Thanks to executive chef Zack Bruell, we have no doubt that the global cuisine will rock.
What's been harder to discern are the prices; menus weren't made available at last month's pre-opening party, and prices haven't been posted on the website. Friends and fellow foodies have been clamoring for details ever since.
So here goes: Among current lunch options, sandwiches like the grilled chicken, goat cheese, and avocado combo, served with cilantro spread, chipotle jam, and a side of roasted corn salad, are set at $12.
Among entrees, prices top out at $18, for porcini risotto with seared sea scallops and basil oil. Apps like tuna carpaccio and fresh-from-the-tandoor naan run $6-$9; meal-sized salads, including one with roasted hangar steak and feta, peak at $15.
At dinnertime, starters like escargot and potato ravioli; Vietnamese pho; and sauteed calamari with sweet-and-sour pepper relish range from $6.5 to $14. Meaty mains —Peruvian style braised lamb shank, grilled Kurobuta pork chop, tandoor-roasted chicken, and the like — check in at $17 to $28. Fish dishes, including panko-crusted halibut, and black cod "tagine," are mostly in the $19 to $25 range; and a la carte sides, including garlic gnocchi, basmati rice, and pommes frites, go for $6 each.
Expanded lunch and dinner menus should launch in the next few weeks. If price points remain the same, Table 45 will be in the same league as Lola, Fahrenheit, and Cleveland's other hot restaurants: expensive, but far from unreasonable. -- Elaine T. Cicora
