Mikey G's Entertainment Picks of the Week

This week’s top arts and entertainment picks around town, from the guy who’s paid to pick them... This week’s top arts and entertainment picks around town, from the guy who’s paid to pick them: Monday: On his second album, Dressed Up for the Letdown, Richard Swift plays jaunty piano riffs, tossed back with sunny melodies and wistful longing for ’70s AM radio. The Minnesota-based multi-instrumentalist occasionally lets his freak flag fly, but there’s pop smarts to his music. He’s at the Beachland tonight with New York’s White Rabbits, who make stripped-down ’80s-style indie rock on their new Fort Nightly CD. Tuesday: Corks Wine Bar’s Date Night (or Just Bring a Good Friend) is a Tuesday special that features a $20 wine-and-appetizer deal. The vino ranges from Spanish reds -- like garnacha and Luzon jumilla -- to German Rieslings and American white zinfandels. The appetizers include sun-dried tomato tapenades, four-cheese pizzas, and olives stuffed with rice, dill, and mint. Yum! Wednesday: Chicago emo pinups the Plain White T’s embody TRL’s pop-punk-lovin’ demo. Songs like “Friends Don’t Let Friends Dial Drunk” and “Hate (I Really Don’t Like You)” get tangled in myriad emotions. Love, anger, and jealousy top the list, but shades of confusion also permeate the grooves. Be sure to get to tonight’s House of Blues show early to see Lovedrug, the Canton indie-rockers who make a big noise. Thursday: H&M, Madonna and Kylie Minogue’s favorite clothing store, opens yet another Cleveland spot today. Just weeks after the debut of its Great Northern Mall location, the retailer cuts the ribbons at its new Westfield SouthPark Center shop. Best of all, the first 100 customers get a T-shirt and gift cards. Friday: Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather! Cleveland Leather Awareness Weekend starts today. The annual three-day fetish blowout includes BDSM workshops, a club revue, and master-slave tips. This leather-clad bash pretty much has all your needs covered. --Michael Gallucci
