Of course, the paper couldn’t resist titling the article “Cleveland?!?: Former Mistake by the Lake is getting national attention as a hot new dining city.” But the writer did spend a weekend with culinary writer Michael Ruhlman. Together they toured Lola
, Lolita, The Great Lake Brewing Company
, and The Flying Fig
The reporter’s opinion: Cleveland “is not the culinary backwater that arrogant Chicagoans may assume.” The reporter particularly loved the “breathtakingly tender short ribs and crispy tempura green beans” at Flying Fig and the “handshaken drinks” at the Velvet Tango Room.
