Cirque du Soleil’s Saltimbanco wows the Wolstein on Tuesday.
Every Monday, Scene calendar editor Cris Glaser provides a random but reliable sampling of things to do in the week ahead. For more options, log onto Scene's entertainment page. And check back Friday for C-Notes' Picks of the Week. Monday: Florida’s the Howlies truck in smoke machines and strobe lights to glam up their 10 p.m. stage show of four-part “harmoni-rock” in the intimate Now That’s Class (11213 Detroit Avenue; 216-221-8576). The quartet is on an East Coast tour to pimp their new EP, Trippin’. And they plan to hole themselves up in the studio with veteran producer Kim Fowley when they’re back in the Sunshine State to work on their first full-length album. Tonight’s show is free. ... Tuesday: Acrobats, bungee jumpers, stiltwalkers, and trapeze artists invade Cleveland State’s Wolstein Center (2000 Prospect Avenue; 216-241-5555) to perform a revamped version of Cirque du Soleil’s Saltimbanco. Originally staged in 1992, the Montreal-based show has an updated musical score as well as a few new high-wire acts. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m., and tickets cost between $31 and $65. Wedneday: At Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall (198 Hill Street in Akron; 330-972-7570), Grammy winner Ladysmith Black Mambazo pays tribute to a 17th-century Zulu royal with a concert of tunes from their latest CD, Ilembe: Honoring Shaka Zulu. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $22.50 to $27.50. Thursday: Ill Nino divides stage time with Droid, Torne, and Bobaflex as the heavy-metal titans tear into the Agora (5000 Euclid Avenue; 216-881-6911) on their nationwide Guerilla Carnival Tour. The concert starts at 7 p.m., and an $18 ticket gets you in the door. Word of warning, though: Take your earplugs. These dudes redefine “loud.”
