Love and the anti-social indie rocker

Posted by Pete Kotz on Mon, Feb 11, 2008 at 5:03 AM

Indie-music fan Cami Thompson and her friends at the Collinwood record shop Music Saves have noticed a disturbing trend at Cleveland concerts: There’s plenty of people with skinny jeans and geeky glasses, but they’re not much for mingling. If you’re single, your chances of meeting a kindred spirit are slim. “Everybody’s so cute, but they all kind of keep to themselves,” Thompson says... To remedy the situation, the group decided to organize an indie rock singles trivia night at the Beachland. For just five bucks, you can nosh on free appetizers and prod your team to victory in a trivia competition about music, Cleveland, and pop culture. Oh yes, and there will be PBR drink specials. Thompson’s hoping at least 40 people will attend, and if all goes well, they’ll be more events to come — “like bowling or hopscotch.” It all happens February 21, the week after Valentine’s Day, just when your girlfriend dumps you for that cute guy in the sales department. A warning: The invitation says guests must be ages 23 to 34, and you need to RSVP. For more info… -- Lisa Rab
