Schlitz: Blender likes it. We like Blender. So we like Schlitz. But not as much as PBR.
The latest issue of our favorite music magazine, Blender, gives props to our favorite music club, the Beachland. Specifically, it names the bar’s jukebox as Best Jukebox in its Best List 2008. The entry praises the “vintage 1966 Rock-Ola,” which is stacked with 80 records – that’s “160 sides,” Blender helpfully informs us. The jukebox – which patrons can play for free! – is filled with ’50s rockabilly, ’60s soul, and ’70s art-punk. Blender digs that. The best-of blurb also gives a little history of the club – a former Croatian social club that now books some of today’s best bands -- and goes on to recommend the Beachland’s deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which the mag says goes well with a can of Schlitz. It must’ve been written by an outsider, since every Clevelander knows that nothing washes that heart attack down like a PBR. -- Michael Gallucci
