(2221 Professor Ave.), the handsome Italian restaurant in Tremont, where savory tidbits like goat cheese tortelloni, Chilean sea bass, and pistachio-crusted rack of lamb are routinely paired with distinguished wines? ...
You gotta admit: Pinot Noirs are worth knowing. Because wines made with this grape tend to be both low in tannins and high in acidity, they are some of the most versatile food wines around. Thanks to those low tannins, for instance, they go swimmingly with rich seafood -- salmon, lobsters, calamari -- and that make an ideal match for white and lighter meats -- chicken, pork, veal, and the like. Yet their mouthwatering acidity allows them to hold up to richer beef and game pairings as well. Their versatility can also be appreciated with cheeses, where they complement everything from creamy bries to hard, salty parmesans.
Lago’s co-owner and wine director Jim Fink will oversee the February 29th festivities, presenting 35 different Pinot Noirs from around the world, along with a selection of light apps chosen for their ability to highlight the wine’s versatility. And if you find a new fave, don’t worry: Most of the wines will be available for sale at retail prices.
