Remember when Bravo was the uber-artsy channel that aired four-hour documentaries and reruns of Twin Peaks? Yeah, we don’t either, thanks to the channel’s barrage of hit reality shows, including Shear Genius, which is just like Top Chef and Project Runway, except it’s about hairstylists and the contestants are curiously less catty.
Take the first season winner, Anthony Morrison, who wooed the audience with his tact, modesty, and amazing scissors. Check out the Bravo blogs, and you won’t see a single diss from viewers, who hail Morrison -- a native Londoner now working in Manhattan Beach, California -- as a true gentleman. You can watch him in action in the clip above...
Thanks to the popularity of the show, Morrison has found himself in the A-list orbit of reality personalities, whose stars seem to be rising just as fast as those of Hollywood celebs, thanks to America’s obsession with watching real people do really amazing – and really stupid – things.
But what’s cool abut Morrison – as opposed to the rich ladies from The Hills – is that he’s still normal enough to visit “real” places like Mentor, Ohio! That’s right, Morrison will be at Francesco’s Salon & Spa in Mentor on May 3 to offer up beauty tips, autographs, and photo ops. “I met him in Chicago at a seminar a couple months ago,” says Anthony Fini, owner of Francesco’s. “He is a very nice guy, very inspiring, and super down to Earth.”
The event will begin at 7 p.m. with drawings for prizes every 30 minutes. There will also be 2 to 3 minute pamper treatments, complimentary product samples, refreshments, and a flat iron demo, as if hanging out with a reality TV star wasn’t fabulous enough. – Denise Grollmus
