Kokomo Winery to host dinner at Boulevard Blue

Posted By on Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 10:16 AM

Time was when winemaker’s dinners were a rare treat. Then distributors figured out what a great marketing tool they make. Now you can’t pop the cork on a bottle of Veuve Cliquot without hitting some visiting winemaker in the noggin. Not that we would ever suggest such a thing. For novice and connoisseur alike, the dinners offer a fine opportunity to sample new wines, learn about food pairings, and develop a broad appreciation of the winemaker’s craft. An upcoming Kokomo Winery dinner at Boulevard Blue (12718 Larchmere Blvd.), on Monday May 19, sounds worth a taste, thanks to the educational presence of winemaker Eric Miller, a roundup of the winery’s top vintages, and savory dishes from BB chef Matt Mytro. ... Founded in 2004, the Sonoma County winery focuses on both Dry Creek & Russian River Valley fruit, with an emphasis on single vineyard wines that show a distinct terroir. According to the website, “We believe that our small production techniques and relationships with growers in the counties allow us to make wines that are as individual and unique as the vineyards from which they were born.” Among the five-course match-ups, find housemade pasta and clams with Kokomo’s Chardonnay; mustard-crusted squab with a Cabernet Sauvignon; and a trio of carpaccio, grilled filet, and braised cheeks with the winery’s Cuvée, a blend of Cab Franc, Merlot, and Petit Syrah. The dinner will begin at 6:30 and will cost $75 per person, not including tax and gratuity. Reservations are required; give ‘em a ring at 216- 721-5500 for additional information. – Elaine T.
