The bar is stocked, the staff is trained, and the permits have all been signed: Luxe Kitchen and Lounge
, Marlin Kaplan’s much anticipated Gordon Square restaurant, opens on Thursday.
The vibe is hip, the décor is funky, and prices are moderate – all aimed to attract the neighborhood’s growing number of young professionals. “It’s gonna be awesome,” says the veteran chef-restaurateur, whose other spot is downtown’s One Walnut. “You’re gonna walk in here, and you’re just gonna say, ‘Wow!’” ...
On the menu, diners will find an assortment of rustic eats, featuring contemporary takes on fresh, earthy flavors. That means dishes like grilled quail with Mediterranean spices; gnocchi with asparagus and tomato-saffron sauce; and sandwiches like the duck panini, with peppers, basil, spinach, provolone, and lemon aioli.
But ask Kaplan for a menu suggestion, and he’s apt to point you toward his pizzas – thin, crisp-crusted beauties topped with everything from grilled chicken and goat cheese to pesto and portabello mushrooms. “Personally, I like them with just sauce, cheese, and oregano – that’s it. The crust has such a wonderful, toasty flavor, I don’t think there’s a need for anything else.”
