Unless you recognize a comedian’s name as That Girl From that Movie or the Dude from That One HBO Special, it can be hard to tell whether a stand-up is worth seeing. Lucky you: C-Notes did the legwork, and the skinny on this week’s big comedy shows, video included, is just a click away. Read on for a full rundown. -- D.X. FerrisComedian: Roz G (video above)
Dates: Wednesday, April 30 through Sunday, May 4.
Specialty: With a loud delivery that’ll curl your hair, Roz G calls it down the middle. And while she’s pro-Clinton, she’s especially partial to Hillary. When she’s not performing in clubs, she’s a lively speaker at 12-step progams and women’s issues meetings.
Playing: The Improv, 2000 Sycamore St., East Bank of the Flats, 216-696-4677,
www.clevelandimprov.com.Tickets: $11-16.
Showtimes: Wednesday-Thursday: 8 p.m. Fri-Sat: 8 and 10:15 p.m. Sunday: 7 p.m.
Comedian: Jim Jeffries
Dates: Tuesday, April 29 through Sunday, May 4.
Specialty: The Kentucky native puts on an R-rated show with killer bits about being a former cop who was too nice for the job (“I’d stop cars and warn the drivers about the speed traps ahead.”); and married life (“I’ve been married so long, I don’t even look both ways when I cross the street”).
Playing: Pick & Frolic’s Hilarities E. 4th St. Theater, 2035 E. 4th St., Downtown, 216-736-4242, www.pickwickandfrolic.com.Tickets: $15-23.
Showtimes: Tue-Thu: 8 p.m. Fri-Sat: 7:30 and 10:15 p.m. Sun: 7:30 p.m.
Comedian: Shane McConnaghy.
Dates: Tuesday, April 29 through Saturday, May 3
www.funnystop.com.Speciality: L.A. Weekly named McConnaghy one of its Funniest People in America; he says his animated delivery is part of his drive to be “a stage whore.”
Playing: The Funny Stop, 1757 State Road, Cuyahoga Falls, 330-923-4700,
Showtimes: Tue-Thu: 8:30 p.m. Fri, Sat: Two shows: 8 and 10:30 p.m.
Tickets: $5-$16, two-drink minimum.
