This past weekend’s Cleveland 100 at Peabody’s featured performances by 100 local bands. Saturday night's metal showcase attracted a wide range of fans of all ages. Long hair, band T-shirts, tattoos, and piercings were sported by most audience members, leaving little room for random emo kids. The brutal Obliterate kicked off their set with “We Like to Kill Stuff” – which pretty much set the tone for the evening. The band’s Dragonforce-like guitar solos and ridiculously fast drums attracted many metal fanatiics to the huge pit that formed during the first song. It didn’t let up till the last note was played ... More than 40 local groups played on metal night Saturday. Labels and recording studios were there to find up-and-coming to sign and record -- which led to many pre-show jitters by rockers who rarely have them. Mobile Home Massacre’s Andrew Drobnick was one of those guys, but you couldn’t tell from his performance. Like most of the Cleveland 100, he and his band killed. --Becky McCall
