Jigsaw Saloon: Where the whacking of bad bartenders is cause for celebration

If the bartenders and waitresses at Parma’s Jigsaw Saloon and Stage seem a little giddy this week, they’re only boosting company morale. And it could score you a $100 bar tab. As one of the servers told me on Sunday afternoon, the club recently deep-sixed a handful of less-than-stellar employees. To “celebrate” the house-cleaning, its managers are promoting Practical Joke Week through Friday night. The customer who can pull the best prank on a staff member will get a $100 credit on their bar bill. And the workers will get the final say on the winning prank. This could get ugly. ... “Our general manager thought this was a great way to make it a happier place after getting rid of all the dead weight,” says Tiffany the waitress. “I’m just waiting to see who’s going to pull a stunt on me.” The promotion also leads up to the club’s 30th-anniversary party at 9 p.m. on Friday, with Cleveland rockers Schnauzer, Ringworm, Soulless, and Not So Gold Ol’ Boys performing on its ample stage before managers award the pranking prize. Between now and then, patrons can gobble up its daily specials: 20-cent wings tonight; two-for-one burgers tomorrow; 50-cent tacos on Thursday; and a battered-cod-and-grilled-salmon fish fry on Friday. “A lot of people can’t believe it’s been 30 years since the bar opened,” says Tiffany. “For some of the regulars, it seems like yesterday.” The club is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. daily at 5324 State Road in Parma.
