Hello, Cleveland: Jack Johnson headlines a, like, totally chill week in concerts

Posted By on Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 8:35 AM

Chief among this week's concerts, surfer-dude-turned-singer-songwriter Jack Johnson brings the feel-good vibes to Blossom. And if that's not mellow enough for you, check out the smooth-jazz sounds of Chris Botti at Playhouse Sqaure. Read on for more concerts and details. Pay attention. There will be a quiz. -- D.X. Ferris MONDAY, JUNE 16 Becoming the Archetype/Beneath the Sky: 7 p.m., $10. Peabody's, 2083 E. 21st St., 216-776-9999, www.peabodys.com. This Christian band plays metal so intense, you get the impression they think Jesus loves thrash. Fish: 7 p.m., $28. House of Blues, 308 Euclid Ave., 216-523-2583, www.hob.com/. Marillion’s singer goes solo, not to be confused with the dirty hippie jam band. The New Frontiers/Liza Bundy: Tavern, 9 p.m., $7. Beachland, 15711 Waterloo Rd., 216-383-1124. Texas Americana band’s songs include the wispy “Look at Miss Ohio.” Sleepercar/Saints/Sparrows & Arrows: 9 p.m., $10. Grog Shop, 2785 Euclid Hts. Blvd., 216-321-5588. Sleepercar features Jim Ward of At the Drive In and Sparta, playing boppy indie rock. Dude’s popular; of course, some people think everything he touches sucks. TUESDAY, JUNE 17 Chris Botti/Nyee Moses: 7:30 p.m., $10-$40 (Ticket.com or PlayHouseSquare.org). Palace Theatre, 1519 Euclid Ave., Playhouse Square, 216-241-6000. This tour, however, apparently finds the Brits moving their butts a little toward the end of their marathon three-hour sets.
