Got the day off and want to head down to the shores to take a dip in the refreshing and clean waters of Lake Erie?
I wouldn't do that if I were you. Not unless you enjoy bacteria, sewage, and E. coli.
Authorities are asking residents not to swim at Edgewater Park after a storm Monday night caused an unknown amount of sewage to flow into the lake.
Jeannie Chapman, a spokeswoman for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, said the water at other beaches was safe when tested this morning.
If you were looking for the bright side of this story — that a very large and popular section of Lake Erie is contaminated with sewage — let it be this: the sewer district says sewage runoff only occurs at Edgewater a couple of times a year now, whereas it used to happen up to 50 times a year back in the 1970's.
Um, good, but just don't go swimming there today... OK?
