Alex Cucu Sues Channel 19 Over Emma Nahas Coverage

Posted By on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 2:34 PM

Alex Cucu owned the boat off which 20-year-old Emma Nahas dived into Lake Erie and never surfaced. Her tragic death rocked the summer of 2010, with questions lingering about who was on the boat and how she drowned.

19 Action News has been all over the story from the beginning. Their coverage, which has continued throughout the winter, has focused on Cucu.

This month WOIO reported on the latest developments: a possible fine for Cucu and the imminent court date when he will face the judge on an assortment of charges, including providing alcohol to minors and boating under the influence.

Cucu is now suing 19 Action News for defamation of character.

NewsNet5 reports:

An attorney for Alex Cucu said his client is seeking $5 million in compensatory and $10 million in punitive damages from WOIO Channel 19. The lawsuit was filed Thursday in Cuyahoga County.

In November, Cucu was charged with the misdemeanor crime providing alcohol to minors after the drowning death of 20-year-old Emma Nahas last summer in Lake Erie.
