Ted Williams to Auction Sign, Jacket

Posted By on Fri, Feb 4, 2011 at 10:28 AM

Like a faded reality star who leaks a sex tape, or like has-been baseball star signing autographs at a home and garden expo, Ted Williams is holding onto anything and everything that will keep him in the spotlight.

The Columbus Dispatch reported earlier this week that job offers have been trailing off for the homeless man with the golden voice. Shocking, we know. Williams was in rehab, then out of rehab, and now... well, he is supposedly going to auction off the famous camouflage jacket and handmade sign from his days on the side of a Columbus highway.

And before you go calling this a desperate cash grab, know that the proceeds are going to a charitable foundation. Ted Williams' charitable foundation, to be exact. NewsNet5 reports:

Even after Williams cleaned up his look with a fresh haircut and some new sweaters, the camo coat and cardboard sign resonated with the millions who watched that original video.

Now, that sign and jacket will be up for grabs, according to a report from TMZ.com.

The website is reporting that Williams is going to auction off the sign and jacket, with the proceeds going to the “Ted Williams Second Chance Foundation.” The foundation was created to help people who need “a hand up and not a hand out.”

No indication was given as to when the items will go up for auction.

Not sure we would bid on those items, but if Williams put his hair up for auction, we'd open the checkbook for sure.
