Dennis Kucinich Calls Obama's Decision for Military Strikes in Libya an "Impeachable Offense"

Dennis Kucinich is a fervent anti-war lefty Democrat, so it should come as no surprise that he came out strong against America's military strikes in Libya. Kucinich, however, took it a step further toward full-loon territory as fellow liberal Dems voiced anger that President Obama ordered the strikes without consulting with or getting the approval of Congress when he called the move an "impeachable offense."

The screengrab above comes (via here) from an interview Kucinich did today on MSNBC. To back up his point, and to prove how seriously he takes the Constitution, the pocket-sized Congressman pulled out a pocket-sized copy of the Constitution while looking like a grandpa who was just told the grocery store was out of prune juice. (We don't blame him. We carry a copy of the Marquess of Queensberry rules for similar reasons.)

He also spoke to Raw Story:

"President Obama moved forward without Congress approving. He didn't have Congressional authorization, he has gone against the Constitution, and that's got to be said," Kucinich told Raw Story. "It's not even disputable, this isn't even a close question. Such an action — that involves putting America's service men and women into harm's way, whether they're in the Air Force or the Navy — is a grave decision that cannot be made by the president alone."

"And I'm raising the question as to whether or not it's an impeachable offense. It would appear on its face to be an impeachable offense," Kucinich said. "Now, it doesn't necessarily follow that simply because a president has committed an impeachable offense, that the process should start to impeach and remove him. That's a whole separate question. But we have to clearly understand what this Constitution is about."

Kucinich's constant assault against the exorbitant military budgets approved in Washington is a noble if not quixotic mission. His self-aggrandizing mission for attention, however, is embarrassing. And he does no one, especially Northeast Ohio, any favors with soundbites like "impeachable offense."
