The Rock Hall's List of Important Songs? There's an App for That

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has just released its first iPhone and iPad app. And surprisingly, it's kinda cool.

Based on the Rock Hall's Songs That Shaped Rock & Roll exhibit, the app is an interactive list of the 600-plus songs that the Rock Hall deems pretty damn important (yes, there's more Billy Joel than Radiohead on the list, but at least the Replacements have a couple songs on there).

The app lets you scroll through different decades (the list spans the 1920s through 2006), look at album covers, get a little history, and hear a sample from all the songs. (If you want to actually own a song, you can click to purchase.)

The Rock Hall app costs $1.99 and is available at the iTunes store.

It's a quick way to have some of the greatest songs ever made at your fingertips. Any list that makes room for UTFO's "Roxanne, Roxanne" and Toots & the Maytals' "Pressure Drop" is OK by us. (But seriously: two Billy Joel songs? Ugh.)

Of course, since most Rock Hall visitors are still trying to figure out how to use their DVD players, don't expect this app to get as huge as, say, Angry Birds. —Michael Gallucci
