Eccentric billionaire, Clevelander, Progressive head, and noted marijuana enthusiast Peter B. Lewis has long been a supporter of the movement to legalize pot. Just last October, his "philanthropy" adviser told the New York Times that Lewis was holding back on political donations in favor of "building progressive infrastructure and marijuana reform. That’s just where his head is right now."
Now, the Columbus Dispatch reports that those efforts are getting more official with aims on getting a ballot issue set for Ohio. Grab some Twinkies and join us after the jump for details.
Through his attorney, Lewis put out a request for proposals to pass an Ohio issue that will "create a model for future campaigns in other states."Following California in 1996, 14 other states have passed ballot issues legalizing marijuana for medically qualified patients, most through ballot issues.
The RFP says Ohio "stands out as having particularly high levels of voter support. This provides an opportunity to enact a new law that will directly help patients and to do so in a manner that will serve as a model for other states."
Lewis is seeking a proposal to include drafting ballot language, qualifying for the ballot, building an organization, communicating with voters, and raising money.
Lewis, who had part of his leg amputated in the 90s, was called a "functioning pothead" by Fortune back in the day.

If purchasing alcohol from supermarkets and consuming it at home doesn't create victims then purchasing marijuana from supermarkets and consuming it at home doesn't either!
The federal marijuana prohibition costs taxpayers $40 billion a year, generates 800,000 unnecessary arrests each year, diverts $10 billion a year to the Mexican drug cartels, is directly responsible for the death of more than 35,000 people in Mexico in just the last four years, and lures drug dealers into our neighborhoods selling their stinking weed to our children. And worst of all, it doesn't even stop kids from smoking marijuana!
We need legal adult marijuana sales in supermarkets, gas stations and pharmacies for exactly the same reason that we need legal alcohol and tobacco sales - to keep unscrupulous black-market criminals out of our neighborhoods and away from our children. Marijuana should be legal to sell to adults everywhere that alcohol and tobacco are sold.
Don't be complacent - demand legal adult marijuana sales!
Dont Legalize it! I don't want Big Pharma and Monsanto destroying a once sacred and medicinally effective medicine. Decriminalize it only!
I run a non-profit that supports scientific research---I would like to propose to help in Peter B Lewis's cause. Where would I send proposal for May 15th deadline?
Legalize the gonja already!! This is a damn joke what is the real reason for not legalizing weefer lol? Is it because the gov rakes in millions of dollars$$$$ to have it transported here? Pretty much every person I meet puff puff passed once in there life and still do. Save the people the tax monies and stop violence because drug dealers are making a pretty penny selling to the kids and legalize it already.
people who smoke weed are very peacefull and non violent. i think if they are not hurting theirselves or anyone else, they should be allowed to smoke it no prob. i my self am a college student, get good grades and i smoke weed. everry time i smoke, afterwards, i feel like a brand new person, i feel pure like jesus is right here next to me lol. i feel the feeling of love and comfort. but one thing i hate is, when people call this plant a drug. when it is a gift from god. noody ever died from it, it saved lives, it can improve the way we live.... god intended for us to use this plant. its the illuminati who dont want us to because marijuana is the start of a global world peace. (i aint no hippie so yall hating ass mafukas can suk ma dik)
