Breaking news today of national... nay... international import: People like beer.

And this additional breaking news is also coming through hot and heavy on the wires: Corral people in a location for a handful of hours, and they will pay surprisingly high prices for a glass of beer.

The AP reports today that the Richland County Fair, which tickled loins and paraded cattle down near Mansfield, sold beer during its week-long run. That would be the first time the Richland County Fair has been wet in its 160 history.

And whaddya know, people bought the beer, meaning a tidy $6000 profit for the fair.

Naturally, not all were in favor of turning on the taps. The Richland Community Family Coalition, which is likely as fuddy-duddy as its name makes it sound, was the most vocal critic, rallying literally tens and tens of opponents to the beer option.

There's talk of several "family" businesses pulling their sponsorships next year because the tap lines will remain open. Gee, we wonder how the fair will ever find a new source of revenue to make up the difference.
