Akron Mayor Calls JobsOhio 'Horsesh*$t'

Ohio Governor John Kasich's JobsOhio program hasn't been the wildly popular or publicly successful applause-maker that he dreamed of and it has barely taken its first steps.

The transition to the "privatized, nonprofit development agency," which is supposed to create jobs, as the name indicates, initially cost Ohio 211 jobs, positions that were whacked at the Department of Development. That's not the way to get off on the right foot, we're guessing.

Via Plunderbund, JobsOhio will also hand over “oversight of state economic development efforts — and the disbursement of millions of dollars in loans, grants and tax breaks to businesses that want to grow — to a network of regional nonprofit organizations.” As Plunderbund notes, that likely means exemption from public records laws. Transparency!

Crain's Cleveland caught up with Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic to get his impression of JobsOhio and here's what he said:

“It sounds like what we get out of Washington, the rhetoric and horseshit,” the mayor said. “(JobsOhio) sounds like the same bureaucratic crap that we’ve had to deal with from Washington.”

Rhetoric, horseshit, and bureaucratic crap. Probably not the tagline Kasich was hoping would be associated with JobsOhio, but one which we're hoping sticks anyway.
