The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its list of 2012 induction nominees this morning.
And like every year, they're a mix of the cool, obvious, it's about time, old, and WTF?
Here they are:
Beastie Boys
The Cure
Donovan
Eric B. & Rakim
Guns 'N Roses
Heart
Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
Freddie King
Laura Nyro
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rufus with Chaka Khan
The Small Faces/The Faces
The Spinners
Donna Summer
War
You'll see some repeats on the list leftover from previous years, like Beastie Boys, who we thought were a shoo-in last year.
We can pretty much guarantee Guns 'N Roses getting in this year. Heart have a pretty good chance too (especially since Ann and Nancy Wilson recently paid a visit to the Rock Hall).
We'd love to see Eric B. & Rakim. But since the Rock Hall seems to have a only-one-rap-artist-per-year rule in place, the Beasties may snag that honor this year.
We'd also love to see the Cure and the Faces.
However this shakes out, Cleveland is the big winner when the five artists are inducted next April since the ceremony returns to Public Hall.
The Rock Hall has a bunch of other stuff lined up leading up to the ceremony, including:
—The Grand Opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Library and Archives
—Unveiling of newly-redesigned Museum exhibit space
—Opening of a new blockbuster exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum
—Free Concert for Cleveland
—Rock My Soul: A Gospel Tribute
—Free Museum day presented by Medical Mutual of Ohio
—Hall of Fame Series with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
—National broadcast of the Museum’s award-winning On The Road education program, featuring a guest appearance by a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
—National digital learning project showcase
While we'd rather see Robert Smith and Rakim onstage during the concert-ending jam, like we said, Cleveland wins any way you look at it. Unless the Red Hot Chili Peppers make it in this year.
What do you think? Who on the list should get in this year? —Michael Gallucci

Please move your museum out of Cleveland since you have a bias against Rush - your ignorance is an embarrassment to the Home of Rock and Roll. WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE. Rufus with Chaka Khan? The Small Faces? You must be joking me... What was your motto going into this, "Let's see how many people we can make talk about how incredibly out of touch with music we are"?
What a joke!! The Spinners? Chaka Khan? Donovan? THAT'S NOT ROCK N ROLL! This list is a joke. No Rush, no Journey, no Grand Funk or Kiss? No Deep Purple? Who's making this list and checking it twice? Santa Claus? Pahleese. HIP HOP IS NOT ROCK. DISCO IS NOT ROCK. R&B IS NOT ROCK. Donna Summer has no right to be on that list either. I guess we just need to all stop going to this joke of a Rock Hall.
The Hall of Fame is NOT just for Rock 'N Roll artist. It covers all genres. Rufus feat. Chaka Khan are very deserving of this honor. So are the other nominees.
