Hey, cant control who your parents are. But you can ask them to refrain from public hate speech.
  • Hey, can't control who your parents are. But you can ask them to refrain from public hate speech.

As we told you last week, pop princess Katy Perry’s So-Cal, God-rocking missionary mom and dad, Keith and Mary Hudson, were in Northeast Ohio last week to speak at the Church of the Rise, a nondenominational shop in Westlake. The visit is getting a lot of attention now. According to news reports, the Hudson’s pulpit message about peace and love was spiked with some comments from Keith that might be construed as . . . they’re just a little bit maybe . . . hell, there’s no question about it: they're straight-up anti-Semitic.

“You know how to make the Jew jealous?" he said at the Church on the Rise, a nondenominational church in Westlake, Ohio. "Have some money, honey. You go to L.A. and they own all the Rolex and diamond places. Walk down a part of L.A. where we live and it is so rich it smells. You ever smell rich? They are all Jews, hallelujah! Amen.”

Fairly unbelievable stuff. Usually when someone gets caught stumbling over the line of good taste, you can write it off as a slip of the tongue, a misunderstanding — those lines right there are about as explicit as it gets, hauling out all the usual stereotypes in true troglodyte fashion.

The Hudsons’ backpedalling is predictably ridiculous, so much so it’s kind of sad — you’d think someone who’s attached bloodline-tangentially to a billion-dollar business asset like a top pop star would have clean-up PR pros always waiting on deck to execute the dark arts of spin and media control. Instead, Katy Perry’s dad comes back with, “Hey, I’m not an anti-Semite, I’ve got tons of Jewish friends.”

Seriously, that’s what he said.

Via an interview with The Blaze:

“I’m not anti-Semitic,” Keith explained. ”We have lots of Jewish friends. We’ve supported Jewish orphanages…The Hudsons do not mean any harm.”

Keith Hudson claims, what? the stuff about the Jews, been saying that stuff for years, no one seems to mind! He says the comments were taken out of context, and that he didn’t mean to be offensive, he was only praying for the Jews. Which in itself is a bit of a dig, suggesting they needed praying for in the first place, ‘ask us.

The clean-up effort only gets worse from there. The Blaze article taps a Hudson family friend, Pastor Phil Tammy Hotsenpiller, Hollywood’s direct-line to Christian divinity; he says, no way, the Hudson’s aren’t anti-Semitic, they’re huge supporters of the state of Israel! See! They support Israel! You can't be an anti-Semite if you support the state of Israel!

Unfortunately, no one has gotten around to whether Keith Hudson is for a two-state or single solution.
