Dennis! Marcy! Graham! Fireworks in 9th Congressional District Race!

Veysey:
  • Veysey: Ha ha, I'm half your age.

You didn’t think the race in the 9th congressional district between incumbents Marcy Kaptur and Dennis! Kucinich, and newcomer Graham Veysey was going to stay peaceful, did you? Nope. As of this week, Kaptur’s running misleading ads about Kucinich’s voting record, Kucinich is writing indignant letters to the Plain Dealer, and Veysey is sending out emails claiming his opponents are old fogeys and he’s kicking their asses.

Apparently, Kaptur is running one of those ads where you claim an opponent voted against something because they once voted against a bill that combined that good thing with a bunch of really bad things — a trick often used by one party to force politicians from another party to vote against something they like so it can be used in an attack ad.

Kucinich’s response was to write a letter to the Plain Dealer publisher Terrance Egger complaining about their endorsement of Kaptur on February 4.

He accused,

The Plain Dealer is being used as an unwitting accomplice to the ugly, seamy, and dishonest side of politics in a 30-second television ad that began airing last night on local stations. In the ad, U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur is making claims regarding U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich's voting record that grossly misrepresent and distort the truth.

Those misrepresentations and distortions, which are reaching millions of viewers in Northern Ohio, are a desperate attempt to influence the outcome of a Congressional election. From the perspective of your newspaper, they are also an outrageous attempt to use the name and the reputation of The Plain Dealer to validate and legitimize ethically indefensible representations of contrived "facts."

After citing the offending charges, he concludes,

By using the words "No wonder The Plain Dealer endorses Marcy Kaptur," she is blatantly attempting to convince viewers and voters in the 9th District that Congressman Kucinich's votes on the previously cited measures were influential, and, possibly determinative in The Plain Dealer's decision to endorse her.

More likely the “determinative” factor was that the PD just doesn’t like Dennis! and never has.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Graham Veysey’s campaign gloats in an email titled “Veysey Scores Another Debate Victory at City Club of Cleveland,”

In a debate held at the storied City Club of Cleveland for the new 9th congressional district, Graham Veysey — the fresh alternative candidate in the March 6th Democratic primary — set the tone of the debate by labeling his competitors Congressman Status and Congresswoman Quo. Throughout the week on the campaign trail, Graham Veysey heard repeatedly from voters that he was the best performer in the first televised debate. He brought the palpable momentum into the City Club of Cleveland debate.

One thing that’s not status quo is Kucinich’s long-time campaign website. The tired-looking site has gotten a dramatic facelift.

You can also follow Kaptur and Veysey and be the first to know when more mud flies. Just remember to duck! — Anastasia Pantsios

As a former strong supporter and campaign worker for Congressman Dennis Kucinich I must state why I am no longer supporting him and why I am supporting Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur.

I worked on the 1994 Kucinich State Senate campaign against Anthony Sinagra and the 1996 Kucinich Congressional campaign against Martin Hoke. During those campaigns I came to know Dennis quite well. I had just completed a run for Cleveland City council in Slavic Village and wanted to continue in politics. In fact, I still hold the record for most yard signs placed during a State Senate campaign.

What concerned me then and concerns me now is why Kucinich failed as Mayor of Cleveland and still fails to succeed as a Congressman. The only common denominator is his lack of people skills. He does not now {nor did he then} have the critical ability to communicate properly with constituents, fellow
lawmakers and the media in general. Some politicians are able to "re-make" themselves. Sadly, Kucinich has chosen not to and look what this has resulted in for the previous 10th Congressional District.

On the other hand, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur reminds me of the type of congressperson we desperately need during these troubling economic times. She truly cares about her constituents. From the moment you meet her you can't help but be struck by her well-honed people skills. She has
utilized these skills very effectively and look at the difference it has
made in Toledo and the surrounding area. On Tuesday, March 6, please
support Marcy Kaptur for Congress and help give the new 9th Congressional
district a start on the right track.

Golly,I think Joey Bialek's big important opinion's going to turn the race into Marcii Kaptur's favor for sure! There's probably two people in the known universe who give one crap what Joey Bialek thinks about anything! And he worked on a campaign in 1964!OMG!This is HUGE!
