Former Scene cover stars Mr. Gnome will be one of the featured acts at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s Summer in the City concert series this evening. It takes place outdoors on the plaza in front of the Rock hall starting at 7 p.m. — and it’s free.
The headliner is Brooklyn’s Bear in Heaven, whose dreamy, impressionistic, electronica-inflected music should provide a haunting backdrop as the sun sets over Lake Erie.
Mr. Gnome's music incorporates some of those elements as well, but into a harder, edgier context, distinguished by Sam Meister's musical drumming and guitarist Nicole Barille's alternately soothing and unsettling vocals. On their many tours around the country — this date is a one-off while they're home in Chardon following a spring tour — they've amassed a loyal fan base, drawing from diverse music communities. Their last show here, at the Beachland Ballroom in April, was packed with ardent local fans standing elbow to elbow. There'll be room for many more on the spacious Rock Hall plaza.
