Bad Ideas: Taking a Baby to a Street Fight

Kids learn fast.
  • Kids learn fast.

Here's how you get them. They put one of yours in the hospital, you put one of theirs in the morgue . . . they pull a knife, you pull a bottle of Similac Advance Powder Formula . . . that's the Sandusky way.

Over in Sandusky (which has, at least in the eyes of this news blog, firmly snatched the crown of Most F-ed Up Police Blotter in the Land from previous title holder, Lorain) law enforcement was called to break up a street fight in the early hours on Tuesday. Simple enough, sure.

Two groups of teens, according to the Sandusky Register, had been jawing hateful at one another, a conflict that started when some guys started messing around with a group of girls. Older brothers got involved, and around 2:30 a.m., a brawl unfurled at West Washington and Shelby. About 20 teens were reportedly throwing punches.

By the time police arrived, the kids were gone. Shaking down the neighborhood, the cops came across a group of six brawlers fleeing the scene. One of the suspects — a 17-year-old girl — was pushing a stroller. She'd brought along her 2-month-old child for a court-side seat to the knuckle-dusting fray. Couldn't find a sitter, maybe.

All six teens were slapped with curfew violations. The mother was hit with a child endangerment charge as well. Not to get all finger-waggin' on this one, but street brawling is probably one of those youthful activities like riding a motorcycle or making your own homemade porn that you should just stop doing once you have a kid.
