Despite the frosty weather, today officially marks the first day of spring. And that means today also is the day that chef Ben Bebenroth of Spice of Life Kitchen and Catering announces the Plated Landscapes schedule for 2013.
This, the seventh year, will feature eight magical farm-to-table feasts running from early August to late September. This year's start date was pushed back from early June to early August, says Bebenroth, to better take advantage of the "throes of the harvest." New this year are a couple of back-to-back Friday and Saturday night dinners at the same location.
But that's not all the chef has up his sleeve. Bebenroth says that because most of the settings are the same year in and out, and most of the diners are repeat guests, attempts are being made to "spice" things up a bit in 2013.
"Some of things we're doing differently this year are to make the experience more dramatic," he explains. "Instead of walking right in and seeing the kitchen, the table and everything else, we want to reveal things more slowly, so you don't see the table until later."
Also, guests can look forward to bigger bands with more members and more notoriety.
The season of alfresco feasts kicks off on Thursday, August 8th at Cleveland Botanical Gardens Learning Garden and runs through September 21st at Killbuck Valley Mushroom Farm. All meals include a farm or garden tour, multi-course meals made with local, sustainable ingredients, and cocktail and wine pairings.
