Just hours shy of Opening Day at The Jake (we know…), a new restaurant has opened up literally across the street. Housed in the former home of GoodFellers Restaurant and Bar, Brick Stone (2297 E. 9th St., 216-861-8000, brickstonecleveland.com) is operated by industry veterans Rick Serio (Serio's on the Square in Twinsburg) and Phil Switz (Catered Elegance).
"It needed a face lift," says Serio, who along with Switz worked tirelessly to re-invent the space.
A prominent brick oven highlights the new design, which owners are describing as midscale casual with a speakeasy feel. Upgrades were made to the bar and dining room areas along with the addition of a stage for live entertainment.
Lead by former Sammy's chef Joe Sluczarcik, Brick Stone's menu is built around the slogan "smoked meats and so much more." That includes barbecue ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket. The "so much more" refers to an array of brick oven pizzas, sandwiches, starters, salads and pastas. The bar menu has been updated with a significant selection of new draft beer and cocktails.
Brick Stone will be open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday, plus game-day Sundays. Brunch might be added down the line. The official grand opening party will be the third week of April, but Serio wanted to launch before opening day.
"Monday will be a huge party for Cleveland and we wanted to be apart of it," he said.
