Campbell's Sweet Factory, the geniuses behind the irresistibly delicious dichotomy popcorn, has confirmed that they will be opening a third location. The original Campbell's Popcorn Shop stand opened in the West Side Market in 2004. Two years ago, Campbell's opened an Ohio City storefront down the block with an expanded product line.
Co-owner Jeff Campbell says that a third location will open in the heart of Lakewood, in what by all accounts is prime real estate — between Melt Bar and Grilled and The Place To Be. It will take over the spots previously occupied by Normile Insurance and Landfall Travel.
Campbell says that Lakewood has been on the company's radar for over a year. "We identified Lakewood because of its density and foot traffic," he explains. "Plus, Lakewood, like Ohio City, is becoming a very foodie city."
The goal is to transform the offices into a nostalgic sweet shop. "Today we discovered above the drop ceiling a beautiful tin ceiling, which we will incorporate into our design," notes Campbell. Apart from the design, the operation will be identical to what shoppers experience on W. 25th Street. "Our cupcakes, chocolates, and popcorn will all be produced right at our location in Lakewood," adds Campbell.
Campbell is far from a one-man band; his family is an intricate part of the brand's success. Jeff's wife and co-owner Lynn is the ying to Jeff's yang, handling the financial end of the business. Their daughters Laura and Bethany are in charge of the bakery side of the company. "They have recently created a brownie in a jar which is incredible," gushes Campbell. Another daughter, Holly, is the house chocolatier.
Shooting for a fall opening, Lakewood promises to be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to growth plans. Another location (to be announced soon) is on tap for University Circle and will open spring of 2014. Campbell also say's the company is close to inking a deal for a full production facility on Fleet Avenue.
"Our business is about to pop — no pun intended!" says Campbell.
