Bomb Threats are Plaguing Northeast Ohio Schools

Posted By on Mon, Oct 21, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Northeast Ohio schools are being hammered with bomb threats.

In the last 21 days, five- that's right, five- northeast Ohio schools have been evacuated, searched, and investigated after allegedly receiving menacing threats.

On Sept. 30, classes were canceled at Strongsville High School after hostile graffiti was found on school grounds.

Two days later, Padua Franciscan High Schoolers were dismissed early after someone discovered a note written in Sharpie on the girls bathroom wall: "Padua will be blown up."

A week later, Gilles-Sweet Elementary School was evacuated after an anonymous email was sent to Fairview Park police; a week after that, a SWAT Team Bomb Unit was called to Olmsted Falls High School for another scare; less than 24 hours later, classes were canceled at Holy Name High School in Parma Heights due to more violent threats.

Today, we circle back to the Fairview Park School district, for yet another threat aganst Gilles-Sweet Elementary.

Can we just ask, what the hell is going on here, people?

Is this some high schooler's idea of a sick joke or the work of a class cutter gone rogue?

While authorities have confirmed that some of these threats were indeed harmless hoaxes, other investigations still have authorities perplexed. What's more, these "pranks" are putting administrators in a bit of a pickle since they can't not take them seriously (that's a double negativo, we know).

Kids are being pulled out of school, parents are getting all riled up, but, really, what's a baffled administrator to do?
