The Ohio State University is opening the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum to the public this Saturday, November 16.
The museum's collection of cartoon art and artifacts is the largest in the world, with over 300,000 original comic strips, 45,000 books, 29,000 comic books and thousands of boxes of fan mail and artists' personal papers.
The museum has original work from many famed cartoonists
, including Charles Schulz, the mastermind behind “Peanuts," Garry Trudeau of “Doonesbury,” early “Blondie” strips from Chic Young and the entire collection of Jeff Smith, an OSU grad and creator of the “Bone” series of comic books.
The grand opening is coordinated with the 2013 Festival of Cartoon Art
, which is held every three years and celebrates cartoons, comics and their creators.
