Today is Day 3 for Hotspot Café (1332 Carnegie Ave., 216-239-1141, hotspotcafecleveland.com), a new breakfast and lunch spot that took the place of Carnegie Kitchen, which closed earlier this year. Previous operations at this address include Verve and Juniper Grille.

The freshly minted eatery is run by CIA-trained chef William Davis, one of the brother-partners who ran the high-quality deli Appetite on Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst. That café closed last year after six years in business.

Davis says that diners can expect a quality product at a reasonable price.

"We're a little bit nicer than what you would get at a typical breakfast and lunch place," he says.

That means higher quality ingredients like cage-free eggs, fresh-cut fruit, steel-cut oats, Ohio maple syrup, nitrite-free deli meats, fresh Certified Angus Beef burgers and many local products.

Breakfast items include corned beef hash, breakfast burritos, omelets, pancakes and house-baked pastries. At lunch, diners can choose from housemade soups, a half dozen salads, half-pound burgers, and a number of deli sandwiches, including the World’s Greatest Sandwich, which Davis imported from Appetite. In that popular sandwich, ham, Swiss, lettuce, mayo and mustard are all piled onto a soft pretzel bun and toasted.

The "hotspot' in the name refers to the free Wi-Fi and high-speed charging plugs offered to guests.

Hotspot is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
