The Inn on Coventry (2785 Euclid Heights Blvd., 216-371-1811, www.innoncoventry.com) opened in 1981, which makes it a three-decade, three-generation, family-friendly, neighborhood restaurant dedicated to filling bellies with good food at a good price. The family's matriarch, Amy Haley, was involved with the business well into her 90s.
The Inn feels homey and familiar — even it's your first visit. It’s a comforting escape from the day-to-day grind, with the scent of fresh-brewed coffee, the bustle of busy servers, the clinking of silverware and the happy chatter of friends and family.
Breakfast runs through early afternoon daily and includes traditional diner offerings alongside a variety of house specialties. The Veggie Mando ($7.59) is a meatless version of eggs Benedict, with avocado replacing the customary Canadian bacon, plus the usual English muffin, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. There's also a delicious corned beef hash, wonderful French toast and pancakes, and a selection of omelets with better-than-average fillings (try the feta, spinach, olive and tomato for something different). But the real steal here is the daily breakfast special (available Monday through Friday until 10:30 a.m.), which features two eggs, bacon, home fries and toast for only $3.75. It’s hard to find a better deal with the same quality anywhere in Cleveland.
When lunch rolls around, the menu expands to include burgers, sandwiches and traditional diner-style entrees — from breaded shrimp to patty melts to hot turkey with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy.
