Ohio Bike Injuries are Down, Stats Show

Posted By on Tue, Apr 8, 2014 at 4:48 PM

With Ohio roads statistically safer than they've been since 1936, it only seems natural that bikers are going to have an easier time too.

And that's definitely the case. Ohio Department of Public Safety statistics show that bicyclist injuries are down to 1,500 in 2013, as compared to 1,900 in 2012.

It's likely that the accident rate dropped because more pedalers took to the streets, meaning drivers had to get used to sharing the road. When accidents have occurred, they received more attention than in the past, with various pro-biker groups proposing more severe punishments particularly for hit-skip incidents.

To try to prevent collisions, awesomely-named groups like Yay Bikes and the League of American Bicyclists have also formed programs to help protect bikers and drivers alike.
