Wadsworth Woman Discovers Bird Leg Inside Bag of Spinach

Posted By on Fri, Apr 18, 2014 at 3:14 PM

A Wadsworth woman made a fowl (chuckle chuckle) find this week when she discovered a dismembered bird leg inside a newly purchased bag of spinach.

Rose Carducci told our friends over at Channel 5 that she bought groceries online from Buehler's in Wadsworth on Monday, but that before she opened up her new bag of Dole spinach she realized things looked a little fuzzier than normal.

"As I started looking some more, I saw what looked like nails, like talons and realized, 'Oh my Gosh, this is part of a bird and was horrified," she said.

Carducci immediately phoned Buehler's management who were equally alarmed at the feathered finding. "It definitely was a concern for us," Buehler's Manager Dave Cleckner said. "So that's why we looked at our product. We did not find anything on our end."

Buehler's reached out to their Indiana-based wholesaler, Caito Foods, while Carducci contacted the Dole headquarters in Calif., which offered her vouchers for spinach and salad. (She declined those— we would have, too.)

Carducci also contacted the FDA who were just "horrified" by the discovery. She said they plan to review Dole's spinach bagging processes.

As for Carducci, well, she says she won't be eating bagged spinach again any time soon. As for us, we just want to know— where's the rest of the bird? *Gulp*
