Earlier this month, Thrillist declared Cleveland one of the most underrated food cities in America. Now, the e-zine is back for round two, penning Why You Need to Care About Cleveland's Food/Drink Scene (for the record, we Clevelanders have been offering up reasons for years).
To compile the photo essay, Thrillist writer Andy Kryza and his team rampaged through our city for "36 gluttonous hours," eating and drinking their way around the downtown, Ohio City, Tremont, and other nearby neighborhoods.
We walked the streets at all hours, hosted by local luminaries, restaurateurs, goodwill ambassadors, brewers, movers, shakers, and people who just kind of move normally. We hugged strangers. We hit dive bars, markets, community gardens, beer gardens, and a ton of restaurants... some that helped define the city's culinary landscape, and some that are redefining it. Then we slept for a week.
Among their stops were local gems such as Momocho, Crop Bistro, Sokolowski's, and Sachsenheim Hall.
Thought it's a shame they didn't venture over to AsiaTown or stop in any of our fantastic wine bars, one would be hard pressed to frequent all of our top notch dining and drinking holes in a mere 36 hours. Even Kryza acknowledged he'd only uncovered " just the tip of the iceberg."
We hope Thrillist returns for seconds and, perhaps, stays a bit longer next time.
