An advocate of all things klezmer, local musician Bert Stratton was instrumental in booking the Josh "Socalled" Dolgin Sextet to play Cain Park’s Evans Amphitheater on Sunday, June 29. Dolgin isn’t your typical everyday klezmer musician either. The Montreal-based artist dabbles a bit in hip-hop too. He plays keyboards, accordion and synthesizer, and sings in English and Yiddish. He has toured extensively with David Krakauer's Klezmer Madness and Abraham Inc., a klezmer-meets-funk group featuring former James Brown trombonist Fred Wesley. This marks Dolgin’s return to Cain Park — he was a member of Shtreiml, a Montreal klezmer band that played there ten years ago. Drummer Jack Stratton, a native Clevelander now living in Los Angeles, is a member of the sextet. The Workmen’s Circle Klezmer Orchestra will perform a pre-concert show at 6:30 p.m. Doglin’s sextet takes the stage at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
