Kent Singer-songwriter David Mayfield Signs Label Deal

Singer-songwriter David Mayfield began his career by playing with his parents in One Way Rider, a local group that played folk and bluegrass at county fairs and festivals. Mayfield moved from Kent to Nashville in 2006 (and then moved to back to Ohio a couple of years ago) to have a go at being a successful sideman. But a tour with his sister, singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield, introduced him to folk revivalists like Mumford & Sons and the Avett Brothers; he successfully launched a solo career after that, and his newer songs have evoked that sound. Compass Records Group recently announced that they have signed Mayfield and will release his new album, Strangers, in early Sept. According to the official press release, “The new album is a bold affair that reaches into the avant-garde while still giving a nod to Mayfield's musical roots.” Sounds promising. Mayfield starts a summer tour this week, and he’ll likely play a few songs from the new album when he swings through town to play Musica in Akron on June 27 with his backing band the Parade.
