This photo was taken moments ago from Scene
HQ on W. 9th St. downtown. The Columbus Road Lift Bridge, which has been under construction for more than a year, is at this moment being transported by barge along the Cuyahoga to its final resting spot, where it's expected to arrive sometime after 2 p.m.
The bridge span, per @SharetheRiver
, weighs 2 million pounds. Folks who'd like to go watch the bridge as it floats down the river — riveting, no doubt — are invited to flock to a designated viewing area at Merwin's Wharf
Don't get too excited just yet. The span will take about 60 days to fully install. The bridge is expected to be open to vehicular traffic by mid-October.
Among other things, this means the Scene
editorial staff can now access Hoopple's
by foot. Taco Tuesday, here we come.
