Drink Local. Drink Tap. to Attempt to Recapture the Guinness World Record at 4 Miles 4 Water Event in May

Drink Local. Drink Tap (DLDT), the locally based not-for-profit organization that aims to “inspire individuals to recognize and solve out water issues,” has just announced it’ll host its third annual 4 Miles 4 Water event at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, at Edgewater Park. At the event, the organization will attempt to break the Guinness World Record holder for “largest number of people walking with a bottle of water on their head.”

In 2014, DLDT set the World Record with 508 people; the record has since has been broken with 1145 people.

DLDT hopes that this year’s even will draw more than 1,200 participants to the Guinness World Record attempt. A water-focused festival with a 1-mile walk/4-mile race and interactive and educational games for both adults and children follows the world record attempt. There will also be a vegan food court and a beer and wine garden. Local reggae act Carlos Jones & the PLUS Band will perform a free concert.

Participants for the world record attempt will line up at 1:30 p.m. for an official count. At 2 p.m., the attempt will commence. There's a suggested donation of $10 that allows you to keep the stainless steel water bottle that will be used for the 400-foot walk; those participating in the 4-mile run or 1-mile walk will receive a bottle as part of their registration.

One hundred percent of the proceeds of the event will be used for projects to provide safe water to those in need in east Africa, to sustain and clean up Cleveland’s water resources, and to educate local students on the importance of water locally and globally. Registration and more details can be found at 4miles4water.org
