Cedar Point Announces the Mean Streak Is Going Away For Good Next Month

Posted By on Mon, Aug 1, 2016 at 10:57 AM

Say goodbye to the Mean Streak at the end of the 2016 coaster season: Cedar Point has announced the coaster will have its final ride on September 16.

The record breaking ride first opened May 11, 1991, and had the tallest lift and longest drop for a wooden coaster in the world. Since opening, the 25-year-old coaster has slowly fell out of popularity with park guests but remained uber-popular with others. (Count us among the latter group.)

The park currently operates 18 roller coasters (and 71 rides overall), and there's no word on what will take the ride's spot when all of that wood gets scrapped. More than 1.7 million board feet of wood were used to make the 5,427-foot-long coaster.
