8/9: Cleveland Orchestra with Garrick Ohlsson

Posted By on Wed, Aug 5, 2009 at 1:09 PM

Garrick Ohlsson has been one of the world’s busiest pianists since 1970, when he became the first and so far only American to win the prestigious Chopin Competition. Since then, he’s performed in a startling range of repertoire and settings. Besides gigs with orchestras, Ohlsson is an active recitalist and a frequent collaborator with string quartets and other chamber groups, including his own FOG Trio. He’s even accompanied the Mark Morris Dance Company. His repertoire includes more than 80 concertos. Tonight, he’ll perform Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of former Blossom Festival director Jahja Ling. Also on the program is Schumann’s Symphony No. 2. It starts at 7 p.m. at Blossom Music Center (1145 W. Steels Corners Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, 216.231.1111). Tickets: $19-$82. — Michael Gill
